Recumbents revealed

Two from Germany: Maaf makes its mark with enclosed-drive chains, and a striking new racing recumbent from Troytec...

Not sure who first spotted it, but the various recumbent blogs have all picked up on the recently launched website of Troytec, based in Munich, Germany. They have launched a very strikingly styled racing recumbent - we're hoping to see it at the upcoming SPEZI show. Weight is said to be from 7.9 kg, and prices from € 4799.

Sue Archer writes:
News on Ligfiets.net of a new name in recumbents. Maaf Bikes, based in Germany, have a range of three recumbent bikes for city travel, commuting or sport. The main feature is the fully enclosed chain running through the frame tube, somewhat in the same way as the Flevobike GreenMachine. This gives the bikes a very clean look, and of course, protects the chain from wetness and dirt, prolonging its life.

The bikes are hub geared, with Shimano Alfine 8 speeds hubs as standard, with options to upgrade to a Rohloff, or a Rohloff/Schlumpf combination. The Sporting and Cruiser bikes have the normal tiller style overseat steering, while the Viper has a fixed steering system with a universal joint. The hard shell seats on all models sit on spring suspension "to increase comfort without compromising pedaling efficiency".

Currently on sale via the web and at the company headquarters in Rhede, Germany, Maaf hope to have an outlet for the bikes in Tilberg in the Netherlands soon.
